Why You Are Not Consistent at Golf?! | Easy Fix

Why You Are Not Consistent at Golf?! | Easy Fix

I often hear golfers lamenting their inconsistency. They hit a great shot, then a terrible one, and they just can't figure out why. While a consistent swing is certainly a goal, I've found that the biggest reason for inconsistency in golf isn't always physical. It's often a lack of a consistent decision-making process before each shot.

The Missing Piece: A Consistent Pre-Shot Routine

Most amateur golfers, unlike professionals and elite amateurs, don't have a structured routine for assessing risks, planning their shot, and reviewing it afterward. This, in my opinion, is the biggest mistake golfers make when trying to find consistency.

To truly understand my game, I need to see what I do on the actual golf course, not just the driving range. That's where a clear decision-making system comes into play.

My Decision-Making System for Every Shot

I've developed a system that helps me approach every shot with clarity and intention, even when I'm not playing my best. Here's how I break it down:

  • Read the shot/environment: Before anything else, I look at all the potential hazards and environmental factors. What's the wind doing? Where are the bunkers? What's the lie like? [00:45]

  • Identify β€œWhat I Can't Do?”: This is crucial. Before I decide what to do, I determine the absolute "no-gos." Are there any obstacles I absolutely cannot hit? This narrows down my options immediately. [02:12]

  • Read the Lie: The position of the ball is paramount. Is it sitting up? Down in the rough? On an uneven slope? I adjust my setup and swing accordingly. [02:15]

  • Practice Swings are Vital: I use practice swings to get a feel for the correct contact and height, especially when the ball is in a tricky lie. This helps me visualize the shot before I commit. [02:43]

  • Make a Clear Plan for the Shot: Once I've assessed everything, I make a definite plan for the shot. This clarity and decisiveness are key to better results, even if the execution isn't perfect. [00:51]

  • Focus on Fundamentals: Even with a plan, I always remind myself of the basic elements: clubface alignment, ball position, and a good follow-through. [03:01]

  • Review the Shot: After the shot, I take a moment to review what happened. This structured approach allows me to learn and improve from every shot I take, whether it was good or bad. [00:51]

The Power of a Consistent Process

I've found that having a consistent decision-making process before each shot leads to greater score in my game overall. It's not about hitting every shot perfectly, but about having a clear intention and a system to follow. This approach helps me manage the course better, reduce mistakes, and ultimately, enjoy my golf more.
